CLIENT: MINISTRY OF WATER AND ENVIROMENT

DURATION: 2020-2021

The overall objective is to support the Ministry of Water and Environment establish/ revitalize the institutional structures and systems available at the Olwenyi irrigation scheme (the scheme), Lira District and support the implementation of the proposed institutional structures through participatory farmer based organizations in order to foster commercially viable irrigation services for sustainable management and regulation of the Olwenyi irrigation scheme.

This assignment commenced in 2017 and will be concluded in December 2020.

On this assignment ACL has been able to:

  1. Undertake promotion, awareness-raising, mobilization, and sensitization of 700 farmers and all key stakeholders through engagement and participation in the implementation, development, and management of the irrigation schemes.
  2. Revitalize the existing Farmer Based Organizations (FBOs) and institutional arrangements for effective management, monitoring, and regulation to foster sustainable and viable commercial irrigation services
  3. Establish and develop the capacity to ensure functional, effective, efficient, and viable Farmer based organizations are created to manage, operate and maintain the irrigation scheme
  4. Train and develop the capacity of farmers in Participatory Irrigation Water Management (PIWM)
